Hello Escondido Soccer Club and FC Heat families,In this edition of the newsletter you will find quite a lot of information that you may need to review more closely.

The Start of Escondido Soccer Club Recreational Season

During the month of August our much anticipated Escondido Soccer Club Recreation Season started.  All of our volunteer coaches from different walks of life donated their time to help work with the children of Escondido Soccer Club. It was a pure joy to see, especially being involved throughout the whole program.

Jessica Escobedo our Director of Recreation and Steve Yorke our Director of Coaching instigated many new changes this year.

Our brand new “Fresh Start” Rec Program saw changes in nearly every aspect of the existing program.

·  Better tryouts for Rec players led by Heat coaches

·  New uniforms including a free soccer ball this year

·  Re-designed draft night including new rules to establish fair teams

·  Our cream of the crop volunteer coaches

·  Emphasis on individual player development practice sessions

·  Competitive Rec games where coaches of opposing teams work together for the good of all players

·  Continued help and support from Heat coaches and personnel

·  Happy players, parents, coaches with a very solid program

If you are a coach and need help with putting together your lesson plans, you can visit our coaching Website at and/or you can seek help from one of our competitive Heat coaches.

As coaches it is important to promote individual player development. We would suggest that a player has a ball at their feet throughout the total practice session, even in warm-ups and stretching we can still use a ball. Since practice sessions are not very long, ball work should be at the center of our teaching.

David Luevanos Jr. thanking the Escondido Board

At our regular board meeting on Wednesday evening, Escondido Soccer Club and FC Heat were acknowledged and thanked by David Luevanos Jr. Director of the Escondido Boys & Girls Club.

Six years ago, David approached Dr. Peter Minkoff about a soccer program he dreamed about for the children of his club. David and Peter worked together on this plan and Escondido Impact became the end result.

Since that day, Escondido Impact, sponsored by Escondido Soccer Club and FC Heat has helped 397 children play soccer in a competitive environment.

“Through your sponsorship,” David said, “The Impact program became a reality. And of the 397 children you have helped, 70% of them have received some type of an academic scholarship. We believe the Impact program gave a second chance to some children who ordinarily would have been overlooked.”

Stephanie Pineda has the floor

David has worked very hard alongside the staff of Escondido Soccer Club to keep this program going. He bought along with him Stephanie Pineda who has been in the Impact program since 6th grade and is now attending Escondido High School. She made a very emotional speech, thanking everyone for giving her a chance.

We are very proud and humbled for the thank you party they put on for us. David and his staff provided dinner and drinks to all who attended.

We should not forget the power that a club like ours has when teamed up with people like David Luevanos Jr.

A simple idea put together with hard work can have such a fantastic end result.  We wish David and Stephanie all the best for the future.

Young Danny Smuts working his way back to recovery

A letter of thanks from the Smut’s Family…

Dear family, friends and even people we may have never met.

After 42 days Danny was discharged from Rady Children’s hospital on Friday morning. Being his ever enthusiastic self we headed to Mission Hills High School where he was given his schedule and had a chance to meet his teachers. Although he has some difficult classes Danny is feeling ready to begin school on Monday the 31st with the rest of his peers. He is most looking forward to seeing his friends again and getting involved in school activities.

Back at home we have begun construction on his new bathroom and work towards new flooring and hope to be done by the end of September. In addition, Danny is scheduled to receive his custom fit wheelchair by the end of September as well. This will allow him to maneuver easily and will add comfort to being in the chair for the day.

Without your financial support these things and many others may not be doable. We feel truly blessed to have you in our lives. We want to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support and we will continue to share updates.

Thanks Again!

Cyndie, Dan , Danny and family

As a side-note; members of the community and members of Escondido Soccer Club and FC Heat Elite raised over $17,000 to help the Smut’s family with care and expenses.
